🎬 Season 1, Episode 12 - “Unveiled”

"Unveiled

Scene pans in, as Chukwuemeka lies on her bed, phone to her ear, a satisfied smile on her face.

Chukwuamaka (in pidgin): “Ada... na wah oh! That thing Baba Nse give me don work like magic! Obiora just dey follow me like mumu, no question, no wahala!”

Ada (on phone, giggling): “You see? I talk am! That charm strong. But no forget wetin Baba talk oh... say make you no abuse am, remember as he stretched or else....”

Chukwuamaka (laughing): “Abeg! No be this love I dey find since, I beg spare me”

She hung up, unconcerned.

The next morning Chukwuamaka and Obiora arrive at church, walking hand-in-hand. Chuks glows in her choir robe; while Obi carries a subtle stiffness, his eyes blank, but smiling.

Rev. Kukpeje meets and greet them at the entrance. This is notable norm of him to everyone in the church.

Rev. Kukpeje (smiling): “Ah, Sister Chukwuamaka… Brother Obiora. You're both glowing. God is surely at work.”

Obiora nods.

Obiora: “Yes, sir… we’re blessed, and by your prayers too.”

Rev’s hand lingers longer than necessary on chukwuamaka as he greets her. Obiora doesn’t notice. Or maybe… he’s too numb to react.

Later in the evening, after church has closed

The choir had just wrapped up rehearsal. Laughter echoed as members exited.

Choir Leader: “Great work tonight guys, see you all on Sunday!”

Soon, the church was silent and empty.

As everyone has left. Except… one room still had light.

Rev. Kukpeje’s Office.

Inside, Chukwuamaka stands by the desk, pretending to look for something.

Rev. Kukpeje (closing the door softly): “They’ve all left, he said”

Chukwuemeka (softly): “Good…”

They move closer. No more barriers. No hesitation. They begin to undress.

Suddenly

BANG!

The door bursts open.

Aunty Dorothy (shocked): “JESUS!!!”

Books fall. Chukwuamaka gasps, struggling to pull her robe back on. Rev Kukpeje stumbles behind the desk.

Aunty Dorothy dashes out, screaming.

Aunty Dorothy, breathless, leans against the corridor wall, heart racing.

she said to herself: “No… this can’t be real, I'm dreaming. That’s a pastor! and a married woman! God… what have I just seen?!”

Her hand trembles as she grabs her phone to call her rider to come pick her from the church premises.

Obiora sits on the couch, coughing slightly. He rubs his chest as sweat beads down his face.

Obiora (weakly): “Why am I… so tired… all the time?”

Chukwuemeka walks in, smiling.

“Baby, you okay?”

He tries to answer, but struggles to breathe deeply.

“Maybe it’s just stress…”

She kisses his forehead and walks to the kitchen, her face showing no worry… only calm confidence.

Aunty Dorothy reaches her abode, she stood at the door, still shocked at what she had seen today. Before she could take a step inside her room, Rev Kupkeje's call came through...
