🎬 Season 1, Episode 9 - “Eyes Wide, Yet shut"

"Eyes Wide, Yet shut"

The room was silent, but the air was heavy.
Obiora stood at the doorway, watching.

Rev. Kukpeje stirred on the couch, eyes fluttering open. He jolted up.

REV. KUKPEJE : “Jesus! It’s past 6 already?” He looked up, startled.

“Obiora! Ah my son. You’re back already?”

Obiora forced a smile stiff, unconvincing.

OBIORA (calmly): “Yes, sir. Came home early… today.”

Their eyes locked for a moment too long.

“I hope you rested well, sir.”

The Reverend chuckled nervously, muttered something about a church meeting, and picked his Bible. He was out the door within minutes.

Chukwuamaka appeared behind Obiora, yawning as though nothing had happened. She didn’t even offer an explanation. She just walked past him, her expression unreadable.

Obiora said nothing. His silence… wasn’t peace. It was survival.

Obiora sat on the edge of the bed, eyes fixed on the floor. His mind raced. Something wasn’t right, but he couldn’t confront it. Not yet.

He clung to the idea of loyalty not to his wife, but to his belief that men of God do not sin.

"Maybe I'm overthinking. Maybe it’s just... hmm." He said and sighed.

But then the visits increased.

Rev. Kukpeje came and left like a shadow.
Sometimes, Obiora was at work.
Other times, he was just in another room, unaware the man was even in his house.

Chukwuamaka no longer cooked for Obiora, often as she used to. But the Man of God eats all the time at all visits.
Her laughter grew louder when she was on the phone.
And some nights… she came to bed late.

Two female members of the neighboring church walked past the house.

Mrs. Topke: “That Reverend man dey come here too often o.”

Mad. Temi: “Hmm. No be only prayer them dey pray.”

Laughter.

The whispers spread like wildfire. But no one dared confront Chukwuamaka . Or Rev. Kukpeje.

They had crossed the line.
The glances had become touches.
The living room wasn’t enough anymore.

Now… they met in the bedroom.
The sacred room Obiora thought was his safe haven.

And Obiora?
Still silent. Still believing.
Still blind. Maybe Sade was the right woman for him, but its too late now.

Obiora was about to leave for work. He tightened his tie and grabbed his briefcase.

His phone buzzed.

MAMA OBIORA (on phone): “My son… I need to speak with you. Don’t go anywhere yet.”
Her voice was trembling.
“There is something you must know. Something about this your wife.”

Obiora froze.
