🎬 Season 1, Episode 6 - “The Line That Shouldn't Be Crossed”
“The Line That Shouldn't Be Crossed”
It was after another long choir rehearsal.
This time, Chukwuemeka didn’t want to stay behind. The whispers in the choir were starting to get to her. Peace had even pulled her aside that evening and gently said, “Sis… just be careful. You’re beautiful, you’re gifted but not everyone in white is pure.”
Chukwuemeka nodded, smiling tightly, but she’d heard the warning.
So, when Reverend Kukpeje asked, “Shall we pray before you go?” she hesitated.
“I’m in a bit of a rush tonight, sir. Obiora is waiting,” she said, already halfway through packing her things.
But he moved closer. “Just a short one… The Lord’s been showing me things concerning your destiny.”
She sighed inwardly. Maybe he means well…
They knelt. The lights were dim. The church hall empty, quiet. As he prayed, his voice was strong… but his hand slowly rested on her shoulder, and then began to slide downward.
Her eyes flew open.
“Sir?” she said quickly, shifting away.
He kept praying as if nothing had happened.
“I think I should go,” she said, standing.
He stood too, eyes dark. “Don’t misinterpret the move of the Spirit, Chukwuemeka.”
She stared at him, disbelief bubbling beneath her skin. “Goodnight, sir.”
She walked out fast, her heartbeat pounding. Outside, the night air felt like freedom.
Back at home, Obiora was asleep on the couch, phone still in hand. His breathing was shallow, his face pale. She rushed to him.
“Obiora?”
He stirred. “I’m fine. Just tired.”
She helped him to bed, concern slowly growing. He had been feeling fatigued more often. His appetite was fading. The man she married, full of energy, always smiling , was changing.
She sat on the edge of the bed, watching him sleep.
Was this still spiritual? Or something more?
The next morning, she skipped choir rehearsal.
Reverend Kukpeje noticed.
During the service, he looked toward her and for the first time, she didn’t look back.
Later that day, Peace approached her in private. “I know what he’s doing,” she said softly. “He tried with me too… years ago. But I kept quiet.”
Chukwuemeka's eyes widened.
“I just felt you should know... before this gets out of hand.”
Back at home, Obiora’s phone buzzed again. That same number. He finally played the voicemail.
A raspy voice spoke in low urgency:
“Obiora… you don’t know who that man is, as well as your wife. Protect your home. Protect your soul. Before it's too late.”
Obiora sat still, sweat forming on his brow.
“Who… who is this?”
But the call had no name, no trace, but sounded more like his mother. She has not been in support of the marriage with Chukwuamaka, but Obiora keep avoiding her advice.
Just a warning, the caller ended the call.
To be continued...
