🎬 Season 1, Episode 3 - “The Unannounced Visit "
"The Unannounced Visit "
Three days had passed since their visit to Glory Tabernacle, and a calm had settled into the apartment like a gentle fog. Obiora still hadn’t spoken about what the pastor said, but Chukwuamaka didn’t press. She trusted her husband. That trust was still a fortress.
It was a Tuesday afternoon. The air was thick with the scent of plantain frying in the kitchen, and the faint hum of a gospel song played in the background.
A knock echoed at the door.
Chukwuamaka wiped her hands and went to open it expecting a neighbor, a delivery, anything but who stood there.
“Reverend Kukpeje?” she blinked, caught between surprise and confusion. “Wow. This is unexpected.”
Obiora emerged from the kitchen behind her, a dish towel slung over his shoulder. He froze briefly, then composed himself. “Pastor... welcome.”
The Reverend smiled kindly, his hands clasped behind his back. “I was led to come. The Lord put you two on my heart this morning.”
They stepped aside to let him in. The apartment was modest but warm, a blend of books, framed memories, and the kind of laughter that lingered in the walls. Chukwuamaka offered him a seat, and he eased into the couch like it was a throne of peace.
The conversation flowed easily at first shared testimonies, laughter, even a short moment of prayer. But as they talked, Obiora began to notice something strange. Subtle, but strange.
Every now and then, Reverend Kukpeje’s eyes would rest on Chukwuamaka just a little too long. Not in an overt way never enough to be called out but Obiora saw it. The soft gaze. The way his lips barely moved when she spoke, as if memorizing her words. The way he chuckled too softly at her jokes.
Obiora blinked, unsure if his instincts were playing tricks on him.
He’s a man of God, he told himself. Don’t overthink it.
Still, a seed of discomfort had been planted.
At one point, Kukpeje turned to Chukwuamaka, smiling gently. “You have a beautiful spirit, my dear. Sensitive. Pure. The Lord’s hand is upon you in a unique way.”
She smiled shyly. “Thank you, sir.”
Obiora’s jaw tightened, just slightly. He forced a chuckle. “Indeed, she’s special.”
The moment passed. Eventually, Kukpeje stood and blessed them both with a short prayer before saying his goodbyes.
“I’ll be checking in,” he said at the door. “You both carry something the enemy would love to destroy. Stay close to the altar.”
As he left, Obiora stood by the door a moment longer than necessary, watching him disappear down the corridor.
Back inside, Chukwuamaka returned to the kitchen, humming. Obiora followed quietly, a shadow of thought darkening his brow.
“Did you know he was coming?” he asked casually.
“No,” she said, “but I think it’s nice that he did. He seems... invested in us.”
Obiora nodded, but a storm was beginning to brew inside him. And the worst part?
He couldn’t tell if it was spiritual discernment... or jealousy.
To be continued..
