Season 2 - Episode 2: "Silent Tears, Darker Shadows"

"Silent Tears, Darker Shadows"

The room was still. Obiora lay lifelessly on the hospital bed, the only sound being the soft beeping from the monitor beside him. For hours, his body had not moved until suddenly, his fingers twitched. Slowly, his eyes opened. A feeble breath escaped his lips, but no words came.

Chukwuamaka, sitting at the edge of the hospital bed, gasped. "Obi! Obi! You’re awake!" she cried, rushing closer.

But Obiora
couldn’t speak. He tried. His lips parted, trembling as though trying to say something… anything. But nothing came out, just a tear that slid down his cheek. That single tear said more than any words could have. It carried pain, confusion, fear, and a deep, silent cry for help.

The doctors found nothing physically wrong with his speech. No stroke, no neurological blockage. Medically, he was fine. Spiritually… something was wrong.

After a few more hours under observation, Obiora was discharged. On their way back home, Chukwuamaka helped him into the car. The silence was unsettling. Even as the city buzzed outside, a storm of dread brewed within the vehicle.

As they pulled into their compound, Aunty Amina was already at the entrance. She had been waiting.

Her eyes darted straight at Chukwuamaka, sharp and wild eyes that pierced through pretense. Then, with a soft shift, she turned to Obiora. "My son…" she said in a trembling voice, but he could not respond. His lips moved, yet not a word came. Tears rolled again.

Aunty Amina’s face twisted in grief and fury. She knew something was spiritually off. Her instincts as the family elder told her this was no ordinary illness. Something, or someone, had silenced her nephew.

Chukwuamaka, aware of Aunty Amina's glare, masked her emotions and excused herself. She walked briskly into the kitchen, where her phone was hidden in the cupboard. Hands shaking, she dialed her best friend Ada.

Ada picked up instantly. "Babe, how far? You don reach house?"

Chukwuamaka whispered, “Things don dey bad. Obi no fit talk. He just dey cry like pikin.”

There was a pause. "Na wetin Baba Eze talk before. Say if e too delay to renew am, e go dey turn against you. You suppose act fast!"

Chukwuamaka closed her eyes in panic. The charm. The instructions. She had been so consumed by the power she thought she had that she had forgotten the warnings. Her marriage was slipping, and something much darker was coming for her.

Back at the doorway, Aunty Amina silently stared at the room. The words of the village spiritualist echoed in her mind:

"A serpent now sleeps in his home. To silence the cry of the innocent, the truth must be cast into the light. But beware, when secrets grow, blood will flow."

She knew what had to be done.
